Azarenka must be suffering from a feeling of deja vu after also having to withdraw last year with an injury sustained in Doha. She managed to win the Doha title last week with a three-set victory over Serena Williams in the final, but playing a second highly competitive tournament so soon after was more than her body could take.
“It keeps getting worse. It was an unfortunate decision that I had to make, and, well, I’m obviously very disappointed with that” said Azarenka.
“It's just, you know, these little things, and the body shuts down after such a big event. It was pretty difficult all the days in a row to play, unfortunately.”
